Massive Military Operation Follows Pahalgam Terror Attack
In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, a precision military operation targeting alleged terrorist infrastructure deep within Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The strikes come in response to a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that killed 26 Indian tourists on April 22.
The operation has ignited fresh fears of conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, drawing sharp reactions from both regional and global powers.
🎯 Operation Sindoor: Surgical Strikes on Terror Infrastructure
India claims the airstrikes were aimed at camps operated by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)—groups it holds responsible for the Pahalgam massacre.
Indian Air Force Rafale jets, equipped with SCALP missiles and AASM Hammer bombs, struck nine targets in a 23-minute precision mission. Locations hit included:
- Bahawalpur (JeM HQ)
- Muridke (LeT base)
- Muzaffarabad, Bhimber, Kotli (training sites)
- Tehra Kalan, Sialkot (logistics hubs)
A senior Indian defense official said, “This operation was not against the Pakistani state or military, but against terror breeding grounds that threaten Indian lives.”

💥 Pakistan’s Response: “An Act of War”
Pakistan condemned the strikes as a blatant violation of its sovereignty, reporting 31 civilian casualties and 57 injuries, including children. The Pakistani military claims to have shot down five Indian aircraft, though India has denied any such losses.
Pakistan launched retaliatory artillery strikes along the Line of Control (LoC), particularly in Poonch and Rajouri, leading to further civilian displacement on both sides.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warned India of “corresponding consequences,” while Pakistan’s National Security Committee authorized the military to respond “as deemed necessary.”
🚨 Blast in Lahore and Drone Intrusions
Amid the chaos, a blast rocked Lahore on the night of May 7. Pakistani officials blamed a suspected Indian drone for the incident. India denied any involvement in Lahore, stating it confined operations strictly to “non-civilian terror targets.”
Pakistani forces also claimed to have downed two additional drones in Punjab province near Lahore.
🛡️ Operation Abhyaas: India’s Civil Defence Drill
In anticipation of escalation, India conducted “Operation Abhyaas”, a nationwide civil defence drill across 244 districts. The exercise included:
- Air raid sirens
- Evacuation drills
- Blackout protocols
- Public training sessions
The move aimed to prepare civilians for potential attacks and send a message of preparedness.
🎙️ Global Reactions: Urging Restraint
The international community has reacted with alarm:
- UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged both nations to “show maximum restraint.”
- U.S. President Donald Trump said, “We are monitoring closely and are in contact with both governments.”
- Iran, Russia, and China have called for “de-escalation through dialogue.”
